Indie music artists are creating a new landscape of India. How well do you know your art? This simple question can be quite puzzling to many. “In this digital age of online personas, the scene of intimate gatherings are playing a great role in making a solo artist understand his music well,” Says Samar Mehdi . “Additionally, we have got to know that our listeners are mostly from tier 2 cities. Hence in order to know the views of our listeners from these cities, Hai Khabar is an amalgamation of different audiences” added Saby Singh. Saby is spearheading the musical journey with Samar.
Saby Singh, a singer-songwriter from Kashmir has made his mark with his famous singles like ‘Yahaan’, ‘Jaane Do’ and ‘Kaash’. Whereas Samar Mehdi, who flourished with his album ‘Urooj’ is a percussive fingerstyle guitarist and a singer-songwriter from Bhopal. Samar writes and performs multi-layered songs organically despite being a solo act. Hai Khabar is Worker Bee’s brainchild and will be conducted for a period of nearly one-and-a-half months. Saby and Samar are taking their respective talents to the expansively spread and diverse cities of the country.
Hai Khabar kicked off from Jammu on June 7, the northernmost state that also happens to be Saby Singh’s hometown. It is set to make its way across Solan, Chandigarh, Lucknow, New Delhi, Jaipur, Nagpur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Surat, Goa, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Gurgaon, Noida, Bhopal, Jabalpur, and the final show will be at Indore.
When we asked Saby about his excitement for Hai Khabar he says, “Music is like a therapy for me and throughout the journey me and Samar are going to stay very close, there are so many possibilities, we can even end up making a composition together”. Samar on ‘Jugalbandi’ with Saby explains, “I and Saby are coming from two different phases of life which is a combination of dark and light, our music is parallel to each other which is a plus”.
Speaking about his decision of choosing all the tier cities for the tour, Kunal Malhotra– founder of Worker Bee, says “Saby and Samar Mehdi enjoy their fan following in the metropolitan cities and the other parts of the country alike. It’s far and diverse. With Hai Khabar we wanted to take over all of that. We’ve worked rigorously to put together every detail to ensure that we and our fans don’t miss out on anything.”
Naman Upadhyay, founder of Unheard-Nagpur says, “Samar and Saby are a rare talent and Nagpur is going to witness the biggest contribution to Indie Music, as Unheard is a platform of live events which focuses on giving platform to original works of talented and independent artists.”
Tickets for Hai Khabar are available on Instamojo and buying them entitles the buyer to a digital copy of Samar Mehdi’s debut EP ‘Urooj’ and an exclusive sneak peek into the pre-production of Saby’s upcoming music.
